Innovation flourishes throughout Central Virginia.  Home to the University of Virginia (UVa), the region offers a rich network of University and community resources to support entrepreneurs and their businesses, including investment funding, professional development, affordable office and laboratory space, incubator and accelerator support, mentorship and networking opportunities.

A major research institution, with sponsored research awards totaling more than $338 million annually, the University of Virginia produces innovative research discoveries with the potential to address critical issues in medicine, engineering, the life sciences, education, business and society. The University seeks to maximize the impact of these discoveries by bringing them to the public through strategic partnerships with industry, government, new ventures and others.

To enhance its commitment to the regional economy, the University has invested heavily in increasing collaboration between the University and the private sector and streamlining the commercialization of UVa research.  This commitment manifests itself in the strategic partnerships between UVa research and local firms, the UVa Research Parks, and UVa Innovation.

Launched in 2012, UVa Innovation maximizes the impact of University of Virginia research discoveries by creating opportunities for University innovators and partners to advance these discoveries to the global community.  To commercialize UVa research and facilitate technology transfer, UVa Innovation partners with existing Central Virginia firms or fosters new startups, leading to opportunities for growth and innovation, high quality jobs and workers, and a diverse and dynamic Central Virginia economy.
