ACCOUNTING CLERK

30-32 hour/week – flex time, $17/hour, Charlottesville, VA

OVERVIEW

An exciting opportunity for a 30-32 hour/week position (flex time) with full benefits in a beautiful upscale office setting at the UVA Research Park.

The Accounting Clerk provides support to the Central Virginia Partnership for Economic Development (Partnership), GO Virginia Region 9 Council (GO Virginia), and Virginia Career Works-Piedmont Region (VCW-Piedmont).  The Partnership, a not-for-profit public/private partnership, is the regional economic development organization for Central Virginia. Its mission is to expand investment in a strategic, responsible and sustainable manner to provide career ladder job opportunities for the region’s resident workforce. The Partnership also acts as the support organization for GO Virginia Region 9, a statewide initiative focused on regional collaboration, and as the fiscal/administrative agent for Virginia Career Works-Piedmont Region, the region’s workforce development board.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide accounting and clerical support to the Grants Accountant
  • Prepare bank deposits, general ledger postings and statements
  • Accurately enter and balance accounts receivable and payable on a daily basis
  • Monitor credit card charges, payment discrepancies, refunds, returns and miscellaneous charges
  • Assist in the management and completion of payroll and benefits reconciliation
  • Assist in monthly reconciliation of accounts and preparation of reports to management
  • Maintain an orderly financial filing system, including digital documentation
  • Research, track and resolve accounting or documentation problems and discrepancies
  • Assemble financial data for audits and financial monitoring
  • Carry out other duties as assigned

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Function in accordance with established standards, procedures and applicable laws with the highest ethical standards
  • Familiarity with bookkeeping and basic accounting procedures
  • Competency in MS Office, especially Excel; experience with QuickBooks preferred
  • Hands-on experience with spreadsheets and financial reports
  • Excellent organizational skills; Accuracy and attention to detail; Aptitude for numbers and to learn quickly
  • Ability to perform filing and record keeping tasks
  • High school diploma required; Associate’s degree or equivalent accounting experience is a plus
