Central Virginia Food Systems Businesses Receive Grants

Four local food systems received an Agriculture and Forestry Industries Development (AFID) grant as reported by Governor Glenn Youngkin’s office at the close of 2022. Recipients in the Central Virginia region are:

  • Kelly Turkeys, Albemarle County, ($24,000) to purchase grinding, vacuum packaging, and freezing equipment
  • New Hill Development Corporation, Charlottesville, ($50,000) to help construct a shared-use commercial kitchen supporting food startups for the Black Entrepreneurial Advancement and Community Opportunity Network (BEACON)
  • George Washington Carver Food Enterprise Center, Culpeper County, ($50,000) to purchase and install a walk-in freezer and cooler as part of a larger commercial kitchen project
  • Silver Creek and Seamans’ Orchards, Nelson County, ($25,000) to purchase new UltraUV processing equipment for two apple orchards
