This class, Recordkeeping and Bookkeeping for Small Business, is the first in a 3-course series.  It explores why accurate recordkeeping is essential for your business’s
short-term operations and long-term growth. Participants will learn accounting
terms and recordkeeping best practices. They will also learn various recordkeeping
systems along with their pros and cons.

Required equipment: Laptop computer (Windows or Mac with the minimum
operating system requirement requirements*)

*Computer requirements:
• Windows PC: Windows 7 or newer, Intel Core i5 or comparable processor (2015 or
newer) with at least 4 GB of RAM. Note: You need Adobe Reader 11.0 or higher to
print forms.
• Mac: OS X “Panther” 10.13 or newer.
• Internet connection: 3 Mbps or higher.
• Internet browser: Google Chrome is recommended for optimal operation

Fee:  $99 for the single class or $249 for this class in combination with QuickBooks Online Foundations, Part 1 and 2 (April 29 and May 5).  Visit the listing on our website for the two QuickBooks Online classes for full details on these.

About the Instructor:  Ellen Martin, BS—Business Management, MS—Nonprofit Management and Philanthropy, and CVSBDC Business Advisor. Ellen’s background meshes multi-faceted for-profit and not-for-profit business experience. She employs holistic and strategic thinking to advance organizational missions. Her 25-year career has encompassed private sector, higher education, voluntary sector, start-up, and entrepreneurial pursuits. Ellen is Founder and Principal of Octavo LLC and is a Certified QuickBooks ProAdvisor.

though the business’s service range extends far beyond central Virginia. The company
serves both not-for-profit and for-profit entities. Octavo identifies and addresses—through
